Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur recently received a Volvo EW205D wheeled excavator to support urban infrastructure and municipal maintenance projects across Malaysia’s capital.
The machine is being deployed for a range of essential works including drainage upgrading and cleaning, road maintenance and reinstatement, utility repairs, landscaping activities and emergency response operations such as flood mitigation and disaster recovery.
Operating in Kuala Lumpur’s dense urban environment, the wheeled configuration of the EW205D allows the city council to move quickly between job sites without requiring a low loader. This mobility enables faster deployment across multiple locations and supports rapid response during urgent repair or emergency operations.
DBKL selected the machine based on Volvo CE’s reputation for reliability and safety as well as its suitability for municipal applications. The excavator combines strong digging performance with manoeuvrability, while its compact footprint and road travel capability allow efficient relocation between projects across the city.
Operators have reported positive feedback on the machine’s spacious cab, smooth controls and reduced noise and vibration levels, helping maintain productivity during long working shifts.
According to DBKL, the excavator has delivered reliable performance since entering service, helping the council maintain infrastructure works on schedule. Volvo CE also provided operator training and commissioning support to ensure the machine could be integrated efficiently into the municipal fleet.
The investment forms part of DBKL’s broader efforts to modernise equipment and improve the efficiency of Kuala Lumpur’s urban maintenance operations.
