Construction of the Port of Marseille Fos’ new headquarters, known as Le Phare, is officially under way in Marseille, France, following the laying of the project’s foundation stone.

The milestone follows preparatory works that began in February 2026, including utility diversions, demolition of the J0/J1 walkway, archive relocation and removal of the former restaurant occupying the future building site.

Work has also been organised to keep port operations running throughout construction. Measures include a revised traffic route and construction of a new cruise ship quay north of the Terrasses du Port shopping centre.

Designed and built by Eiffage in partnership with Corinne Vezzoni & Associés and architect Philippe Matonti, Le Pharewill become the new headquarters of the Port of Marseille Fos while incorporating and restoring the historic Hall J0.

Eiffage Concessions, Eiffage Immobilier, Eiffage Construction, Eiffage Génie Civil and Eiffage Énergie Systèmes are all involved in delivery of the project.

“With this first stone, we are not only beginning the construction of a building. We are setting out our ambition of a port that is more open, more visible and more closely connected to its surroundings,” said Christophe Castaner, Supervisory Board Chairman at Port of Marseille Fos.

The new headquarters is scheduled for handover in the second quarter of 2028.

A second phase will then involve demolition of the existing headquarters and final development of Hall J0 and surrounding public areas, with completion of the wider project expected by 2030.

The project combines new port infrastructure with the redevelopment of an existing heritage site, while maintaining maritime and terminal activity throughout the construction programme.
