Collett has completed the delivery of 107 wind turbine components for the 49.9 MW Lairg II wind farm in Sutherland, Scottish Highlands.
The seven-week programme covered nine Nordex turbines, comprising two N133 and seven N149 units from the manufacturer’s Delta4000 series.
Blades were transported from the Port of Nigg, while the remaining components moved from the Port of Invergordon. Collett maintained a delivery schedule of three components per day, five days a week.
The largest loads included 73-metre blades and mid-tower sections weighing 81.7 tonnes. The blades were moved using Nooteboom Super Wing Carriers, while tower sections were transported on a combination of tower clamp and step-frame trailers.

Deliveries typically operated as three-vehicle convoys supported by Collett escort teams and Police Scotland.
The remote Highland route required extensive planning and enabling works, including modifications through Pitten Trail and the widening of a key turn at Lairg to accommodate the abnormal loads.
Port exit arrangements were also adapted to suit the swept paths of the turbine components, with storage used to manage sequencing throughout the programme.
“Transporting components of this scale through the Scottish Highlands required detailed planning, particularly when navigating 73-metre blades through restricted sections of the route,” said Scott Ashdown, Project Manager at Collett.
The project was delivered in coordination with Nordex, EnergieKontor, Police Scotland and other local partners, with all 107 components arriving on schedule.
