Konecranes has marked the delivery of its 1,000th Automated Guided Vehicle, with the milestone unit handed over to APM Terminals Maasvlakte II in Rotterdam.
The golden AGV was officially presented at the terminal on 8 September 2026, recognising more than a decade of collaboration between Konecranes and APM Terminals in the development of automated container handling.
APM Terminals Maasvlakte II was designed around a highly automated and electrified operating model, integrating equipment, software and terminal processes within one system. AGVs have become a key part of this concept, transporting containers electrically between the quay and the container yard.
The 1,000th vehicle reflects the continued development of Konecranes’ AGV technology and the growing role of automation in large scale container terminals.
“This golden AGV symbolizes what can be achieved through long term partnership, innovation and a shared determination to keep improving,” said Harold Kunst, Managing Director of APM Terminals Maasvlakte II.
Frank Bergsdorf, Director at Konecranes, added that the milestone represents more than the delivery of a single vehicle, highlighting years of cooperation, shared learning and technological development between the two companies.
Konecranes said the delivery also demonstrates its long term commitment to automated container handling, as terminals continue to focus on safety, reliability, scalability and operational efficiency.
The milestone vehicle will now join the automated fleet operating at Maasvlakte II, supporting container movements across one of Europe’s most advanced terminals.
