Mammoet Japan and Tokyo Juki have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to expand access to ultra-heavy lifting equipment in Japan, creating a local framework for the deployment of Mammoet’s ring cranes on major industrial and energy projects.
The cooperation will combine Mammoet’s specialist heavy lifting equipment and engineering expertise with Tokyo Juki’s local workforce, site resources and knowledge of Japanese regulatory and operational requirements.
Mammoet’s ring cranes offer lifting capacities ranging from 1,600 to 6,000 tonnes, allowing larger components and modules to be handled at greater radius while maintaining a relatively compact site footprint.
The companies said the additional capacity could support new construction methodologies based around larger modules, helping reduce the number of individual lifts, on-site assembly activities and work at height.
Potential applications include offshore wind, nuclear construction and maintenance, infrastructure, industrial facilities and offshore production projects.
“Japan is preparing for projects that will require greater lifting capacity and new approaches to construction,” said Yusuke Kakinuma, Representative Director of Mammoet Japan.
“This cooperation creates a practical route for bringing Mammoet’s specialist equipment and engineering capabilities to Japanese project sites.”
Tokyo Juki President Taku Tsuruoka said the agreement would also allow the company to expand into new areas of ultra-heavy lifting, particularly offshore wind and nuclear power.
The partnership is intended to make heavy lifting capability available earlier in project planning, allowing contractors to evaluate larger modular construction strategies before site layouts and fabrication plans are finalised.
