New oil refinery project in Algeria

Algerian Sonatrach has signed a contract with Tecnicas Reunidas & Samsung Engineering Group for the construction of the Hasse Messaoud oil refinery to be built at Haoud El Hamra. Its processing capacity will be 5 million tonnes per year. The Spanish contractor and the South Korean company will be responsible for executing the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) works. This 440 billion DA (€3,31bn) project should be completed within 52 months.

Mr. Kamel Eddine Chikhi, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the SONATRACH Group, said on this occasion “The signing of this contract confirms our desire to further develop our hydrocarbon resources into refined products, to satisfy on the one hand the needs of the national market in matter and on the other hand to contribute to the economic and social development of our nation through the strengthening of its industrial fabric ”.
