Max Bögl Expands with Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1

Max Bögl has taken delivery of the first of five Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1 mobile cranes ordered to support the growing demand for wind turbine construction across Germany.

The cranes, ordered earlier this year, will be delivered in stages through February 2027 as the company continues expanding its production and assembly capacity for hybrid wind turbine towers. The first unit is already at work in Papenburg, where it is helping install 20 wind turbine towers over a 17-week programme.

Stefan Bögl, CEO of the Max Bögl Group, collected the crane from Liebherr’s Ehingen plant. “Liebherr has long been our reliable partner when it comes to expanding our in-house construction machinery fleet. Thanks to their high lifting capacity and rapid deployment, the newly acquired mobile cranes are perfectly suited for use on our wind farm construction sites,” he said.

Max Bögl is Germany’s market and technology leader for hybrid towers, which combine concrete and steel sections. The concrete towers can reach heights of 110 metres and are assembled from more than 30 individual rings weighing up to 60 tonnes each.

At the Papenburg project, the LTM 1750-9.1 is installing 86-metre-high concrete towers for turbines with a hub height of 164 metres. The crane lifts loads of up to 56 tonnes using its telescopic boom extended with lattice sections to achieve a hook height of around 100 metres.

As the components become heavier and the turbines taller, you need the right equipment,” said Florian Herdegen, Site Manager for Tower Assembly at Max Bögl. “It is always a challenge to position our concrete rings on the tower with millimetre precision in changing weather conditions. With the Liebherr crane, the assembly process runs smoothly.”
