Krandienst Schulz is expanding its mobile crane fleet with six new Liebherr machines in 2026, including an LTM 1150-5.4 and a new 400-tonne LTM 1400-6.1 that has already completed its first job in central Hamburg, Germany.
Delivered at the end of September, the LTM 1400-6.1 made its operational debut in early October at Fleethof near Stadthausbrücke, where Schulz was tasked with replacing heat exchangers in a building’s air-conditioning system.

Loads of up to 3.5 tonnes had to be handled at a radius of 55 metres using a luffing jib. The operation was complicated by the location of the heat exchangers within the building structure, requiring them to be rotated while suspended and carefully drawn out from their existing positions.
A high building edge increased the required working height, while restricted space in the city centre left little room for crane assembly and outrigger positioning. Only two traffic lanes could be closed, meaning traffic continued to pass alongside parts of the operation.
The new LTM 1400-6.1 forms part of a wider fleet investment by the family-owned Hamburg company, which has operated for more than 50 years and now works from three locations.
Schulz operates an entirely Liebherr mobile crane fleet, allowing crane operators to move more easily between different machines while simplifying scheduling and training.

“A standardised fleet makes us more efficient in many areas. In scheduling and field operations, it is much easier when every crane operates on the same principle. It also makes training our crane operators easier,” said Günter Sichward, Owner and Managing Director of Krandienst Schulz.
The company is also investing in additional personnel and digital processes, including digital order management and use of the MyLiebherr customer portal.
“The most important factor in our success is quite clearly our employees. Without their skills and dedication – whether on the building site, in the workshop or in the dispatch department – none of what we achieve today would be possible,” said Günter Sichward, Owner and Managing Director of Krandienst Schulz.
Schulz says its investment strategy is focused on maintaining flexibility and fleet availability while continuing to respond to increasingly demanding lifting requirements across Hamburg and the surrounding region.
