Hammar Maskin received the DEFENDER Award at MSPO 2026 in Kielce, Poland, for its XXL36 load-handling system, developed for heavy transport, container handling and field logistics.

The latest XXL36 configuration was displayed on an 8×8 Scania truck and combines transport, lifting and stacking functions in a single vehicle. The system offers a lifting capacity of 36 tonnes alongside the vehicle and can also lift and transport selected vehicles weighing up to 28 tonnes.

Designed for flexible military logistics, the XXL36 can transfer loads horizontally between the ground and different transport platforms, including railway wagons, trailers and trucks. It can also stack containers two high and two rows deep.

Beyond cargo handling, the system can be used for field service and repair operations. In this configuration, the sideloader can function as a mobile overhead crane with a capacity of 10 tonnes, allowing heavy components such as engines and exchange modules to be lifted during maintenance work.

If a vehicle cannot be repaired in the field, the same platform can then be used to assist with recovery, handling and onward transport.

“The objective with the XXL36 is to give defence organisations greater flexibility in how loads are handled. Rather than being limited to one type of load or handling method, vehicles with the Hammar XXL36 can in a flexible way support transport, horizontal lifting, transfer, stacking and service operations,” said Peter Cederholm, CEO of Hammar Maskin AB.

He added that receiving the DEFENDER Award represented an important recognition of the concept.

The DEFENDER Award is presented during the International Defence Industry Exhibition, MSPO, and recognises products developed for defence and security applications. Entries are assessed by a jury formed from the MSPO Programme Board with support from experts representing the Polish Armed Forces, academia and the defence industry.
