Arrow Construction Companies is using a 24-tonne capacity Caldwell Dura-Mod 24 modular spreader beam to handle a range of below-the-hook lifting applications, with the system supplied by Caldwell distributor Superior Lifting Specialists.
The Dura-Mod system is designed around interchangeable end fittings, drop links and intermediate spreader sections, allowing users to adapt the beam to different lift plans without purchasing a complete dedicated spreader for each configuration.
Arrow’s DM24 system can be configured for spans from 3 ft to 24 ft, with capacity varying according to the selected spread and sling angle. The package supplied includes two 1.5 ft DM24 end fittings, two 6 ft spreader sections and two additional 1 ft sections, alongside the required drop links and rigging hardware.
By combining these components, Arrow can quickly alter the beam configuration for different lifts while keeping transport and assembly requirements relatively simple.
“The DM24 is really nice to put together with just one guy last minute. No special forklift handling or extra guys needed to put it together,” said Mike Wegener, President at Arrow Construction Companies. “They’re interchangeable and I like the versatility for picks.”
According to Caldwell, the modular approach is particularly useful where lift requirements change frequently or where short lead times make dedicated lifting equipment less practical.
“Today’s lift may call for a 6-foot spread, while tomorrow’s requires 20 feet at a different capacity,” said Ryan Moen, Regional Sales Manager at Caldwell. “With Dura-Mod, your initial investment provides the foundation for future flexibility.”
The system also offers logistical advantages. Components shorter than 14 ft can be palletised with other equipment, reducing the shipping footprint, while the compact sections require less storage space than conventional fixed-length spreader beams.
Superior Lifting Specialists said the system gives Arrow a single lifting platform capable of adapting to a variety of applications rather than requiring multiple dedicated beams.
