Palfinger will supply offshore cranes for the Formosa 4 offshore wind farm in Taiwan, marking the company’s eleventh project in the country and the ninth wind farm to be equipped with its service platform cranes.

Located around 18 to 20 kilometres off the coast of Miaoli County, the Formosa 4 wind farm will cover approximately 58 square kilometres and have a total installed capacity of 495 MW. The project represents an important step in Taiwan’s renewable energy transition and will contribute significantly to expanding the country’s clean power supply.

Under the agreement with Synera Renewables Taiwan, Palfinger will deliver 35 units of its PF 200 fully electric offshore cranes, each with a seven metre outreach. The cranes will be installed on jacket foundations supporting 14 MW wind turbines supplied by Siemens Energy.

According to Alexander Lee, regional sales director APAC at Palfinger, the cranes offer a modular design, strong corrosion resistance and simplified maintenance, helping developers minimise vessel time during installation while reducing operational risk and supporting efficient project schedules.

Delivery of the cranes is scheduled between the second and third quarters of 2026, with installation and commissioning expected within the same year. Once completed, the total number of Palfinger offshore wind cranes operating in Taiwan will reach 271 units.

Iavor M. Markov, global key account and segment manager offshore wind at Palfinger, said the growing presence of the company’s electric lifting solutions reflects the confidence customers place in its technology and experience in offshore wind projects worldwide.

Palfinger is also continuing to strengthen its regional service capabilities. With an established service base in Taichung, the company plans to expand its resources further to support Taiwan’s growing offshore wind sector and ensure reliable long term operation for its customers.
