DP World and Thames Freeport have completed The Hive, a new £13 million skills, training and innovation centre at London Gateway in the UK, designed to support the continued growth of the port and logistics park.

Located at the centre of London Gateway Logistics Park, the three-storey facility will deliver more than 100 days of industrial and employability training each year, supporting around 1,125 trainees annually across the Freeport.

A strong focus has been placed on advanced logistics and maritime skills. The Hive will include crane driver simulators, working-at-height training and virtual reality technology aimed at introducing people to careers across ports, logistics and related industries.

The building also provides meeting rooms, a double-height training and events area, a 100-person auditorium and amenity facilities for employees working across the connected port and logistics park.

“With The Hive now complete, we are creating a space where businesses can collaborate, employees can thrive and the local community can develop the skills needed to access new opportunities,” said Alan Holland, Chief Executive Officer of DP World London Gateway Logistics Park.

London Gateway currently supports more than 10,000 jobs through direct employment and its wider economic activity.

Construction began in October 2025, with the facility built using British steel. The project achieved BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ certification and an EPC ‘A+’ rating.

SEATS will operate as the Skills Partner for The Hive, working with DP World, employers and regional organisations as training activities begin from November.

“This investment is about ensuring that the continued growth of London Gateway translates into real opportunities for local people and businesses,” said Stuart Rimmer, Interim Chief Executive Officer of Thames Freeport.
