Eiffage, through its subsidiary Eiffage Construction, has been awarded the design-build contract for the Institute of Biology and Pathology at Bordeaux University Hospital in Pessac. The €50.8 million contract, of which Eiffage’s share amounts to €29 million, will be carried out in a consortium.

The consortium comprises Celnikier & Grabli Architectes, TLR Architecture, MC Paysages, laboratory design experts 2B Concept Consulting, and technical engineering consultants Ingerop, SICC, and AVLS. Electrical work will be managed by Cenergia, while Hervé Thermique will oversee HVAC, plumbing, and special fluids.

Spanning a floor area of 16,460 m², the five-storey building will be strategically positioned at the heart of the Haut-Lévêque site, linking the logistics hub in the north with the cardiology and care buildings to the south. The new institute will house state-of-the-art laboratories, office spaces, and storage facilities, all centered around a landscaped patio.

The project, developed using a Building Information Modeling (BIM) process, places strong emphasis on environmental and energy efficiency. It will be connected to the hospital’s heating and cooling networks and equipped with an intelligent energy consumption management system. To minimize its carbon footprint, the building will incorporate low-carbon concrete for internal floors and ceilings, along with biosourced and reused materials. Additionally, green spaces will be integrated to mitigate heat islands and enhance the overall environmental quality of the site.

Currently in the design phase, the project is set to commence on-site construction in September 2025. The work will span 29 months, with completion and handover scheduled for 2028.
