Two 400-tonne cranes with 3,000m hook travel and two 50-tonne auxiliary units will equip Siem Industries’ offshore support vessels under construction in China.
Huisman secured a contract from Siem Industries to supply knuckle boom cranes for two newbuild offshore support vessels at Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding in Fuzhou, China.
The order comprises two 400-tonne main cranes, each fitted with a below-deck winch, and two 50-tonne auxiliary cranes with deepwater capabilities. Production will take place at Huisman’s facility in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province.
The main cranes are designed to handle loads of up to 400 tonnes in a single-fall configuration. Full-load active heave compensation will use Huisman’s proprietary secondary-controlled drive system, while hook travel of up to 3,000 metres will support deepwater operations.
A high-lift mode will allow large loads to be raised to greater heights. The specification also includes load peak shaving and lift-off boost modes, which Huisman says are intended to extend the operational weather window for offshore lifts.
Control and safety features include the company’s fifth-generation motion controller and LiDAR-based active collision avoidance. The cranes are also designed to reduce power fluctuations on the vessel’s electrical grid, with eco-mode operation and interaction with onboard electrical power solutions.
The equipment will support subsea work and offshore construction activities, combining heavy lifting capacity with the handling flexibility of a knuckle boom arrangement.
