A Zoomlion ZCC89000 crawler crane lifted a 1,244-tonne living quarters module into position at the Zhuhai Deepwater Equipment Manufacturing Base in China, using a single lift to replace a three-stage assembly approach.

The operation formed part of the Huizhou 25-4 offshore project, with the accommodation module prefabricated as an integrated unit before being lifted onto the platform structure.

The construction method brought together lifting, fine adjustment, positioning and installation in one operation. According to Zoomlion, it replaced the traditional approach of lifting the module in three sections and joining them at height, reducing elevated work and improving construction efficiency and operational safety.

Controlling the load throughout the lift was central to the operation. Zoomlion highlighted the ZCC89000’s resistance to lateral loads, fine movement control and stability in long main boom configurations as key capabilities for handling large offshore modules.

The wider platform features an upper module approximately 85 metres high and a designed float-over weight of around 29,000 tonnes. Zoomlion describes it as Asia’s largest offshore crude oil processing platform.

For the living quarters installation, the integrated approach moved more assembly work to ground level, leaving a single heavy lift to place the completed 1,244-tonne unit into position.
