A reported stake in Kenya Pipeline Company and proposed network investment frame Dangote’s regional logistics ambitions as refinery chief David Bird joins South Sudan Oil & Power 2026.
East African fuel distribution infrastructure will provide a backdrop to David Bird’s participation at South Sudan Oil & Power 2026, scheduled for 24–25 November in Juba. The Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals chief executive and managing director has joined the event as a speaker.
In a statement distributed by APO Group on 22 October, organiser Energy Capital & Power linked the appointment to Dangote’s expanding refining and distribution strategy in the region.
The organiser reports a 25% stake in Kenya Pipeline Company, valued at $335 million, and plans for a further $1.5 billion investment to expand its approximately 1,300km network. The network carries petroleum products from Kenya’s coast towards domestic and regional markets, including Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The roughly $1.8 billion figure relates to the reported pipeline stake and proposed network expansion. It is separate from the planned $16 billion, 700,000-barrel-per-day refinery at Lamu, also cited in the announcement.
For South Sudan, the organiser presents additional regional refining capacity as a potential route to stronger petroleum trade. Any future feedstock arrangement would depend on commercial viability, infrastructure and crude compatibility. Bird previously led Oman’s OQ8 refinery venture, bringing experience in refining, pipeline and terminal infrastructure to the conference discussions.
