deugro completed a time-critical industrial shipment from the UAE to Poland, rerouting 42 out-of-gauge units totalling 5,746 m³ and 26 40-foot containers through Saudi Arabia after restrictions disrupted vessel movements in the Middle East.
The cargo was collected in Dubai in April 2026. With direct ocean transport through the Strait of Hormuz not feasible, deugro’s teams in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Germany and Poland worked with its Chartering Department to develop an alternative route via the Port of Jeddah.
Securing suitable tonnage was a key challenge as vessel availability and schedules became increasingly uncertain. deugro chartered a vessel for the shipment, which departed Jeddah in May.
“Despite the uncertainty surrounding vessel movements and operational restrictions, we were able to act quickly, secure a vessel within a very short timeframe, and develop a reliable transport solution,” said Jessica Bruns, Chartering Manager at deugro Chartering.
Moving the cargo from the UAE to Jeddah required significant road transport capacity. deugro mobilised 33 low-bed and 26 flatbed trucks despite high regional demand and limited equipment availability.
Conditions at Jeddah added further complexity, including severe port congestion, lengthy border procedures, a temporary outage of the electronic customs system and vessel waiting times of up to ten days.
A dedicated deugro Saudi Arabia team worked 24/7 in rotating shifts over three days to coordinate truck arrivals, customs procedures, terminal handling and vessel berthing, reducing cargo dwell and detention time.
After arrival in Poland, the vessel’s onboard cranes discharged the OOG cargo and containers directly onto trailers arranged by deugro.
For the final journey to the project site, 33 truck-trailer combinations carried the oversized components, while another 26 trucks transported the 40-foot high-cube and open-top containers.
“The timely loading of the complete shipment, the successful reduction of vessel detention to a minimum, and the earlier-than-planned arrival at the Polish port of discharge were key achievements of this project,” said Jan Hasenbanck, Head of Projects at deugro Hamburg.
Despite the route disruption and tight schedule, the complete shipment reached Poland on time, maintaining continuity for construction activities at the destination site.
