LGH France Handles Heavy Lifts for Colombelles Bridge

LGH France has provided a specialist lifting solution for the construction of the Future Colombelles Bridge at Ports of Normandie, helping position precast concrete elements weighing up to 100 tonnes.

The project involves the construction of new reinforced-concrete bridge piers and formwork structures. Large precast components were manufactured on the Calix quay from mid-March 2026 before being transported by barge to the installation site.

The elements included a 100-tonne precast unit for Pile P2, alongside 67-tonne half-ring segments and 45-tonne components for Pile P3.

Heavy Lifts as the Colombelles Bridge Takes Shape 1

Working within a constrained quayside environment required precise handling and load distribution, particularly for the irregularly shaped half-ring sections. LGH France supplied a lifting configuration adapted to the weight, centre of gravity and geometry of each component.

The equipment included Modulift modular spreader beams and Multi-Lug systems, together with high-capacity slings, shackles and sheave blocks. The configurations provided controlled load distribution and accurate positioning throughout the lifting operations.

Heavy Lifts as the Colombelles Bridge Takes Shape

All elements were installed safely and on schedule, including the 100-tonne P2 component and the multi-segment P3 assembly.

The lifting operations contributed to the continued progress of Eiffage Génie Civil’s work on the Future Colombelles Bridge and the wider infrastructure development at Ports of Normandie.
