Van Oord has completed the installation of all 111 monopile foundations for the 1.5 GW Baltica 2 offshore wind farm in Poland, concluding a major offshore construction campaign in the Baltic Sea.
The scope included 107 monopiles for wind turbines and four for offshore substations. Van Oord served as the main contractor for the transport and installation of the foundations and scour protection.
Jointly developed by PGE and Ørsted, Baltica 2 is expected to generate enough renewable electricity to supply around 2.5 million Polish households once operational.
The monopiles measure up to 100 metres in length, range from 9.5 to 10.5 metres in diameter and weigh approximately 1,900 tonnes each. Their installation required coordination across manufacturing, transportation, offshore logistics and weather planning.
Van Oord deployed its specialist installation vessels Svanen and Aeolus for the campaign. Using two vessels allowed multiple activities to be carried out in parallel, helping maintain installation efficiency and keep the project on schedule.
