Liebherr Delivers 6 Offshore Cranes for Dutch Grid

Liebherr will supply six RL 2600 Ram Luffing offshore cranes for TenneT’s 2 GW offshore grid projects in the Netherlands, supporting the expansion of critical North Sea wind energy infrastructure.

The cranes have been ordered by Singapore based engineering, procurement and construction specialist Seatrium Ltd. and will be deployed across three offshore converter platforms: IJmuiden Ver Beta, IJmuiden Ver Gamma and Nederwiek Beta. Each platform will be equipped with two cranes ahead of planned operations beginning in 2029.

A key feature of the project is the integration of Liebherr’s LiMain digital maintenance system, which will support remote maintenance on the unmanned offshore platforms. The order represents the first time an Asian based EPC contractor has selected the LiMain solution.

“We are proud to support Seatrium for the first time and to contribute our expertise to these significant offshore grid projects for TenneT,” said Oliver Odebrecht, Sales Manager, General Purpose Offshore Cranes at Liebherr in Rostock“As offshore wind grows in significance worldwide, we are delighted that our solutions play a meaningful role in advancing a resilient and future ready energy infrastructure.”

Designed specifically for offshore applications, the RL 2600 combines a compact footprint with high lifting performance. The crane offers a maximum outreach of 45 metres and a lifting capacity of up to 25 tonnes, making it well suited for maintenance operations and logistics support on large offshore converter platforms.

The LiMain system enables remote and partially automated maintenance functions, reducing the need for offshore visits while lowering operational costs and environmental impact. Its modular design allows operators to tailor monitoring and maintenance support to individual project requirements.

“When the cranes enter service, maintenance and support will be coordinated by Liebherr Netherlands,” said Niek Brabers, Sales Manager at Liebherr Netherlands. “Our priority is timely, stable support that keeps equipment performing as required.”
