Nooteboom Trailers B.V.’s latest Mega Windmill Trailer XXL (MWT-XXL) is proving its value in real operations, with Silvasti reporting strong performance and improved stability following its first deployments.
Introduced in early 2025 and showcased at bauma, the MWT-XXL builds on the established MWT series. Silvasti, a long-time user of the platform, quickly integrated two units into its fleet, benefiting from the familiarity of the design combined with targeted engineering improvements.
“Our first impression was that there were only small differences compared to the previous MWT,” said CEO Ville Silvasti. “But those small differences are exactly what make the big impact.”
According to Silvasti, the key advancements lie in the trailer’s construction—particularly the enhanced stability of the rear dolly. This improvement has translated into more predictable handling, even when transporting large-diameter wind tower sections.
“The trailer is even more stable than we expected,” he noted. “Our drivers notice hardly any difference when moving towers from 4.5m or 6.5m diameters.”
The MWT-XXL has already been used on demanding projects, including the transport of tower sections up to 6.3 metres in diameter in Lithuania, close to operational limits, without issue.
Silvasti also highlights the efficiency of Nooteboom’s three-point clamping system, which simplifies handling compared to traditional four-point solutions. Combined with low weight and reduced maintenance requirements, the trailer offers a versatile solution for both tower sections and nacelles.
“In this business, we’re constantly operating at the limits,” Silvasti added. “Stability and simplicity of design are key, and the MWT-XXL delivers exactly that.”
