deugro Houston has strengthened its cargo handling capabilities with the addition of a new straddle carrier at its 50-acre Cedar-Port Operations and Logistics Terminal (COLT) in the Cedar Port Industrial Park, Baytown, Texas.
The specialized material-handling unit is designed to lift, move and transport a wide range of container types as well as smaller breakbulk cargo, with a capacity of up to 95,000 pounds (43,091 kilograms). The machine will operate across the COLT facility, supporting more efficient internal transport and cargo positioning.
What sets this straddle carrier apart is its tailored engineering. deugro collaborated with dteq Transport Engineering Solutions (dteq) to develop a design optimized specifically for COLT’s operational requirements. The goal was to ensure maximum flexibility for both current and future cargo profiles handled at the terminal.
According to Franklin Alvarez, Regional Director Transport Engineering Americas at dteq, the company was involved from the initial design phase. The team adapted the carrier to meet COLT’s cargo handling needs and introduced adjustments to the custom spreader and lift beam to expand the unit’s usability for future loads and applications.
