Smulders, one of the key players in the offshore wind sector and a subsidiary of Eiffage Métal, has recently clinched two significant contracts, pushing its total order intake for 2024 to over €1 billion. This milestone underscores Smulders’ dominance as a European leader in turnkey metal structures for offshore wind farms.
The new contracts, awarded for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farm developments off the coast of Poland, reinforce Smulders’ role in advancing renewable energy infrastructure. In partnership with Equinor and Polenergia, Smulders has secured an EPC contract to supply platforms and jacket foundations for two electrical substations. The scope of work includes design, procurement, manufacturing, testing, and commissioning of these substations, with the exception of electrical systems. Production will commence at Smulders’ Belgian facilities, with final assembly taking place in the Netherlands. Delivery is scheduled in phases from mid-2026 to mid-2027.
Additionally, Smulders has partnered with Sif in a consortium to manufacture 100 transition pieces for the same projects. This contract encompasses manufacturing, procurement, testing, and commissioning. The secondary steel components will be produced at Smulders’ Polish plants, with final assembly occurring at their Hoboken, Belgium site.
The Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 projects each aim to deliver 720 MW of installed capacity, combining for a total of over 1.44 GW. Upon completion, these wind farms are expected to provide green energy to more than two million households.
