Smulders HSM will construct and integrate a new compression module for the N05-A offshore gas platform in the Dutch North Sea after securing a new contract from ONE-Dyas, building on its successful delivery of the platform’s original production facilities.
The project will be delivered through an integrated team comprising Smulders HSM, SPIE and ONE-Dyas, with offshore installation supported by Scaldis. The collaborative approach is designed to streamline engineering, procurement, construction and installation while improving project efficiency.
“We are proud to continue our long-term collaboration with ONE-Dyas on the next phase of the N05-A development,” said Hans Leerdam, Commercial Director at Smulders HSM. “The project brings together our proven capabilities, detailed knowledge of the existing platform and an integrated delivery approach. The N05-A project is a flagship example of how Dutch entrepreneurship can support domestic gas production while enabling low-emission production through power supplied by a nearby offshore wind farm.”
The new compression module will feature two independent compression trains, enabling the platform to operate at different pressure levels as field conditions evolve. Measuring approximately 27.2 by 15 by 15 metres, the module will have an estimated dry weight of 875 tonnes, including around 350 tonnes of structural steel.
Operational since March 2025, N05-A is the first offshore gas production platform in the North Sea powered entirely by offshore wind energy. Connected to the nearby Riffgat offshore wind farm, the platform operates with near-zero operational emissions while supporting domestic gas production.
The compression module represents the next stage in the development of the field, helping maintain efficient gas production while making full use of the platform’s existing low-emission infrastructure as the Netherlands continues its transition towards a carbon-neutral energy system.
