Al Jazeera Shipping Co. W.L.L., a prominent marine operator in the Gulf region, has expanded its fleet with the addition of Liebherr‘s state-of-the-art LR 1400 SX crawler crane. With a fleet of over 150 units comprising various types and sizes of tugs, barges, and other equipment, Al Jazeera Shipping Co. W.L.L. has been actively engaged in the maritime and offshore and oil industries for more than 45 years. The company’s primary activities include chartering tugboats, supply boats, accommodation and work barges, as well as leasing offshore construction equipment. Al Jazeera Shipping Co. W.L.L. also operates its own marine fabricating yard, spanning over 80,000 square metres, to carry out associated repair and maintenance jobs, with 300 metres of water frontage adjacent to the Mina Salman Port area.

In early 2022, Mr. Ali Hasan Mahmood, Managing Director of Al Jazeera Shipping, expressed his desire to renew one of his used older generation crawler cranes. He explored various suppliers, and the latest addition to the Liebherr crawler crane range, the 400-tonne LR 1400 SX, caught his attention. In addition to the crane’s superior load curve and safety ratings, Mr. Ali Hasan’s decision to choose Liebherr was primarily influenced by the model’s short assembly time, preselection feature of individually customized load charts, and its ability to preselect barge inclinations, which automatically applies the permitted load curve. The LR 1400 SX has just been commissioned and will be deployed on several projects with Bapco and its refinery in Bahrain starting from May 2023.

Ali Hasan Mahmood expressed his pride in being the first company in the Gulf to receive the Liebherr 400-tonne crawler crane model LR 1400 SX. He hopes that with Liebherr’s assistance and full cooperation, more Liebherr crawler crane purchases will be made, leading to a great association.
