Collett has expanded its specialist heavy transport fleet with the addition of its first bridge crossing system, a Greiner BUSY 1050.
Designed for heavy transport routes where bridges, culverts or other structures cannot accommodate the axle loads of large transport combinations, the BUSY 1050 creates a temporary bridge-over-bridge solution above the existing infrastructure.
The modular system can overbridge structures up to 25 m and can be adapted to suit different crossing lengths depending on project requirements.
Rated at 1,050 metre-tonnes, its permissible capacity varies according to the span, transport configuration, axle arrangement and load distribution. Collett’s engineering team will assess each application to determine the required system configuration and allowable loading.
David Collett, Managing Director, said the investment would increase the company’s flexibility when planning heavy transport routes.
“The addition of our first bridge crossing system provides greater versatility in the service we can offer our clients,” he said. “As market requirements continue to evolve, so too must our fleet and capabilities.”
Deployment of the BUSY 1050 will involve Collett’s engineering, heavy lift and heavy transport teams, covering route assessment and calculations, assembly of the crossing system and the subsequent transport operation.
The system has already undergone a trial assembly at Collett’s Goole Heavy Lift depot ahead of its first project, scheduled for later in September.
The investment gives Collett an additional option at the route-planning stage, particularly for projects where infrastructure restrictions could otherwise prevent the movement of increasingly large and heavy loads.
