Liebherr completes crane trio for dredger

Liebherr has delivered a third LS-C 80 crane for installation on the dredger Seaway, completing a trio of next-generation ship cranes for the operator’s fleet.

The compact cylinder luffing crane, designed for heavy maritime operations, has been installed on a rail-mounted gantry system that allows it to travel along the vessel’s deck, enabling flexible and efficient handling of equipment during dredging activities. The fully assembled crane and gantry system were loaded in Rostock onto the transport vessel MV Aura using the powerful TCC 78000, which offers a lifting capacity of up to 1,600 tonnes.

Configured to handle loads of up to 50 tonnes with a reach of 26.5 metres, the LS-C 80 combines high lifting performance with a robust, low-maintenance design suited for demanding offshore environments. Its low centre of gravity and advanced control systems ensure safe and precise operations, while features such as remote control capability and obstacle detection along gantry rails support efficient workflows on deck.

The dredger Seaway, built by Royal IHC in the Netherlands, is currently undergoing final outfitting and testing ahead of its planned entry into service in mid-2026. Designed with a 31,000 cubic metre hopper, advanced automation and methanol-ready propulsion, the vessel reflects a new generation of environmentally efficient dredging solutions.

With sister vessels Helios and Krios already equipped with Liebherr cranes, the addition of the LS-C 80 to Seaway reinforces the operator’s continued reliance on Liebherr’s engineered solutions for reliable and consistent offshore performance.
