Collett & Sons Ltd has announced the latest addition to its specialist wind turbine transport fleet with the purchase of a second Goldhofer FTV850 blade lifter system.
The advanced equipment, scheduled for delivery in February 2026, will significantly enhance the company’s capacity to handle the new generation of wind turbine blades, some measuring up to 100 metres.
The Goldhofer system features a lifting module with an 850 tonne-metre capacity, allowing blades to be raised from 0 to 60 degrees and rotated a full 360°. Supported by 8-axle split lines, 6 driven axle lines, and a 530BHP ADDrive 2.0 power pack unit, the system offers superior stability, traction, and manoeuvrability. The adjustable axle width, ranging from 3 to 4 metres, further optimises load distribution and route safety.
The new blade lifter will debut on the Sanquhar II Wind Farm project in Dumfries & Galloway and East Ayrshire. Once complete, the 44-turbine extension will generate 308MW, making it the UK’s fourth-largest onshore wind farm. Both of Collett’s blade lifters will work in convoy, enabling efficient and safe delivery of components.
Jack Collett, Renewables Director at Collett & Sons, said:“With the arrival of our second Blade Lifter, we’re able to transport larger turbine blades more efficiently and safely than ever before. Operating both trailers together provides the flexibility and capacity our clients need on complex renewable energy projects.”
