Van Oord has commenced reclamation work for a new quay at Paldiski South Harbour in Estonia, aimed at expediting the growth of offshore wind energy in Estonia and the Baltic States. The project involves Van Oord’s trailing suction hopper dredger Vox Amalia, delivering around 830,000 cubic meters of sand to create a 10-hectare land area for the quay. The dredged sand comes from a borrow area on the northern coast of Hiiumaa, 125 kilometers from the port. The completion of the new quay is scheduled for 2025.

The strategically located quay will position the Port Authority, Port of Tallinn, as a vital partner in the construction and maintenance of offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea region. It will enhance the port’s capability to accommodate large special-purpose vessels for constructing offshore wind farms and transporting components. Additionally, the spacious rear area behind the quay will support the establishment of industrial and production companies associated with the offshore wind industry.
