David Huck has been appointed Group Chief Executive Officer of Peel Ports Group, taking leadership of the UK port operator after 16 years with the business.

Peel Ports Group generates around £820 million in annual revenue and handles approximately 60 million tonnes of cargo each year across its ports, terminals and logistics operations.

Huck previously served as Chief Operating Officer and Chairman of the Port of Liverpool and Manchester Port Security Authority. In that role, he oversaw operations across six ports and Statutory Harbour Authorities, 24 terminals and a workforce of more than 2,000 employees and third-party logistics personnel.

During his time with the Group, he has also played a key role in delivering more than £1.5 billion of infrastructure and investment projects.

As CEO, Huck will focus on cargo growth, safety, infrastructure investment, technology and strengthening the resilience and competitiveness of UK trade.

“David is a highly respected figure in the business with extensive operational, commercial and strategic leadership experience,” said Mark Whitworth, Executive Chairman of Peel Ports Group. “He has been integral to the company’s success for 16 years, championing projects to transform our ports into the most efficient and automated network of terminals in the UK.”

Huck succeeds Claudio Veritiero, who stepped down earlier this month after five years as CEO.

“We will now build on that momentum, pursuing our ambitious growth plans and continuing our journey towards becoming the UK’s leading port operator,” said David Huck, Group Chief Executive Officer of Peel Ports Group.

Before joining Peel Ports Group, Huck spent six years with Hutchison Ports UK, where he progressed to Deputy Head of Container Terminal Operations. Earlier in his career, he worked for a decade in the vehicle manufacturing sector, ultimately becoming Operations Director.
