Samkang S&C Co., Ltd (part of the SK ecoplant Group) in Goseong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, Republic of Korea, has completed a colossal shipbuilding project involving a staggering 63,781 tons. The mission focused on the assembly of a single unit FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Off-loading) ship, a mammoth structure requiring intricate planning and execution.
Due to the sheer size and weight of the FPSO, the project adopted a meticulous approach, dividing the ship into six blocks for transportation. These blocks were then meticulously transported to a floating dock, where final welding operations seamlessly combined them into a unified FPSO ship.
Executing this high-end challenge involved the strategic use of self-propelled Cometto SPMT (Self-Propelled Modular Transporter) units, customized in different configurations. The transportation process required a substantial fleet, ranging from 288 to 360 axle lines per job. Samkang S&C outsourced the load-out transportation project to KCTC, a transportation specialist, which utilized Cometto’s MSPE EVO2 vehicles from three distinguished companies: Global, Daemyung, and Anjeon.
The FPSO ship, a crucial component of the Barossa FPSO offshore plant project, boasts a main deck with impressive dimensions – a length of 340 meters, a width of 64 meters, and a height reaching 31.5 meters. Singapore BW Offshore actively participates in the development of this ambitious offshore plant project.
This successful completion of the FPSO load-out project underscores the advanced capabilities of Samkang S&C and its partners, showcasing their ability to tackle intricate shipbuilding challenges on an unprecedented scale.
