The UK branch of Hendrik Veder Group has achieved success with an innovative circular fibre rope project in collaboration with a global energy industry leader.
The project involved inspecting, collecting, and recycling used lifting slings into raw materials through the Group’s partner network. This sustainable approach resulted in significant savings on incineration processing and reduced emissions, making rope and sling processing more eco-friendly.
Through a strong 15+ year vendor relationship and strategic partnerships, the Group collected 18 Metric Tons of slings, which were sorted in Rotterdam for an optimized outcome. Minimizing non-usable materials during the collection stage enhanced the project’s sustainable output and reduced costs and time.
Hendrik Veder Group’s commitment to sustainability and its network of partners were crucial to the trial’s success. Identifying the potential to convert end-of-life equipment into new raw materials, the Group maintained compliance with ESG deliverables, extending product life cycles wherever possible.
The trial demonstrated a cost-effective alternative to incineration, with potential to reduce an operator’s CO2 footprint by 36,000 kg if implemented on a larger scale. Moreover, the salvaged raw materials can be repurposed into new products, enhancing the Group’s environmental efforts and commercial value.
The successful pilot promises more sustainable projects in the future for Hendrik Veder Group.
