Five locomotives with a combined weight of 332.28 tonnes were transported from the Port of Abidjan to Abobo Sagbé as preparations advance for construction of Line 1 of the Abidjan Metro.

Africa Global Logistics (AGL) Côte d’Ivoire carried out the operation for Colas Rail between 2 and 4 August 2026, managing the complete logistics chain from vessel discharge through to final placement of the locomotives on rail.

The move involved unloading and lifting the locomotives at the port, loading them onto two Nicolas hydraulic trailers, completing technical and safety checks, transporting the units under escort and positioning them at the receiving site.

AGL deployed two Nicolas hydraulic trailers, specialised heavy transport tractors and a 400-tonne crane, together with dedicated lifting, securing and escort equipment.

Detailed route surveys and risk assessments were completed ahead of the move, including planning for lifting operations, load securing and coordination with port authorities, security services and project teams.

“Beyond its technical complexity, this operation puts our expertise at the service of a project that will permanently transform mobility in Abidjan. Its success relied on meticulous planning, specialised equipment and precise coordination between all those involved,” said Dieudonné Gaïbaï, Managing Director of AGL Côte d’Ivoire.

The delivery and rail positioning of the five locomotives represents another operational milestone in the mobilisation of equipment for Abidjan Metro Line 1, one of Côte d’Ivoire’s major urban transport infrastructure projects.
