BOSS Heavy Haul has launched a dedicated rail transload service at its Dayton terminal near Houston, Texas, expanding its handling capabilities for heavy and out-of-gauge cargo.
The new service links a nearby rail siding with the company’s 80-acre yard via a half-mile route with no bridge crossings, helping simplify transport planning and permitting for oversized loads.
By avoiding bridge crossings, BOSS said shipments using the route can bypass some of the engineering requirements normally associated with heavy transport permits in Texas. State permits are typically issued within a week or less in many cases.
The rail service also complements the terminal’s 15-acre Foreign-Trade Zone, activated earlier this year. Cargo entering the FTZ can defer import duties and taxes until it is released for domestic consumption.
On-site equipment includes cranes, gantries and jack-and-slide systems for unloading, staging and storing heavy cargo such as transformers, turbines, generators, rotors and HRSG modules.
“This rail connection is a natural extension of the investment we’ve made in our Dayton facility,” said Dave Womack, Vice President of BOSS Heavy Haul.
The company said the combined rail, storage, heavy lift and FTZ capabilities are intended to provide project cargo customers with a more efficient route from origin through to final delivery across the Gulf Coast region.
