Junttan, the Finnish foundation equipment specialist, has joined forces with Volvo Penta to power its next-generation machines, beginning with the new DR5 drilling rig. This collaboration brings together shared values, technical expertise, and a long-term vision for reliable, future-ready solutions.
The DR5 drilling rig, Junttan’s flagship model, marks the beginning of a new era with Volvo Penta’s high-performance TAD1385VE engine. This Stage V / Tier 4f engine delivers 405 kW of power in a compact design, meeting the demanding uptime and reliability requirements of specialist equipment.

“This is a strategic choice for the long term,” says Tomi Voutilainen, director of product management and engineering at Junttan. “Volvo Penta’s solutions not only meet our technical needs today but also provide the flexibility and development paths to support our future goals.”
Junttan began its search for a powertrain partner in 2020, looking for a solution that would future-proof its equipment. After thorough evaluation, Volvo Penta was chosen for its extended maintenance intervals, scalable power options, and robust global service network. The cultural fit between the two companies, based on agility, transparency, and shared values, was a key factor in the decision.

“This collaboration shows how Volvo Penta supports OEMs with flexible, dependable solutions,” says Pasi Järvelä, area sales manager at Volvo Penta.
The partnership emphasizes sustainability, with the DR5 drill rig achieving a 20-tonne weight reduction over its predecessor and compatibility with 100% renewable HVO fuel. Both companies are committed to evolving together, ensuring future-ready power solutions for the foundation equipment sector.
