CMA CGM Group has unveiled a landmark $20 billion investment to bolster the U.S. maritime economy and support the transformation of America’s domestic supply chain over the next four years. The announcement reinforces the Group’s 35-year commitment to the U.S. market, where it currently operates in 40 states and employs 15,000 Americans. CMA CGM transports over 5 million shipping containers to and from the country each year, solidifying its position as one of the key players in U.S. trade.
Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and CEO of CMA CGM Group, expressed his pride in strengthening the Group’s relationship with the United States: “I am proud to build on our long-standing relationship with the United States through this commitment of $20 billion to the country’s maritime future and logistics capabilities. Over the next four years, we will significantly grow our U.S.-flagged fleet, expand the capacity of key container ports on both coasts, develop state-of-the-art warehousing across the country, and establish a significant air cargo hub in Chicago. This will create 10,000 new American jobs and further strengthen our partnership with American customers and public authorities.”
Strengthening U.S. Shipbuilding and Maritime Jobs
As part of the investment, CMA CGM Group will contribute to the advancement of American maritime capabilities through targeted initiatives aligned with the U.S. Administration’s priority to bolster shipbuilding capabilities. This includes enhancing the fleet capacity of its U.S. flag carrier, American President Lines (APL), and creating new maritime jobs. The Group’s commitment will reinforce APL’s position as the leading carrier for U.S. government cargo transportation, while also supporting national security objectives.
Port Infrastructure Expansion on Both Coasts
CMA CGM plans to expand container port infrastructure at key locations, including New York, Los Angeles, Dutch Harbor, Houston, and Miami. These investments will enhance operational efficiency, accelerate digitization, improve connectivity, and increase safety standards for port workers and cargo.
Advanced Warehousing and Automotive Logistics Platforms
The Group will further strengthen the U.S. supply chain by developing cutting-edge warehousing facilities and automotive logistics platforms across the country. These modern logistics hubs will improve the security and reliability of the domestic supply chain, reinforcing America’s leadership in logistics services.
New Air Cargo Hub in Chicago
A significant part of the investment will be dedicated to expanding air cargo capacity through the establishment of a new air cargo hub in Chicago. CMA CGM will deploy five new Boeing 777 freighters, operated by American pilots, to enhance U.S. trade connectivity and ensure the swift transport of critical and time-sensitive goods.
Innovation in Logistics and R&D
To stay at the forefront of logistics innovation, CMA CGM will open a new R&D hub in Boston, dedicated to advanced robotics and automation solutions. Developed in collaboration with leading American technology partners, the hub will optimize logistics services and ensure top-quality service for American customers.
This transformative investment marks a significant step in strengthening the U.S. maritime and logistics landscape, while fostering job creation, technological advancement, and supply chain resilience.
