Carousel Logistics has launched a new airside cargo hub at Birmingham Airport, significantly expanding its handling capacity and streamlining operations. The new facility triples Carousel’s previous capabilities and is expected to cut up to 50,000 miles of road transport annually.
“Our new facility at Birmingham Airport will allow us to handle even greater volumes of cargo within the same tight time window,” said Andrew Lowery, UK Managing Director at Carousel Logistics.
Located near key transport links, including the M42 and M6 motorways, Birmingham International station, and new HS2 connections, the site will improve efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. The move eliminates the need for cargo previously transported to Carousel’s Coventry site before continuing its journey, enabling direct sorting and shipment from the airport.
As part of its commitment to sustainability, Carousel has also introduced lower-emission equipment at the site. Forklifts and belt loaders now operate on electric power, ground power units run on HVO biofuel instead of diesel, and the company has deployed a fleet of electric vans.
