Sarens Replaces South Vancouver Cell Tower

In an ambitious project commissioned by Rogers Communications, Walsh Wireless and Sarens joined forces to replace a cell tower in South Vancouver, marking a significant step in expanding high-speed connectivity in the region.

The new state-of-the-art tower promises to enhance network capacity, enabling the community to manage more users and data traffic seamlessly. It aligns with Canada’s position as a leader in 5G network deployment, with over 95% of the population already enjoying access to high-speed connectivity.

Sarens, renowned globally for its expertise in heavy lifting and engineered transport, played a crucial role in dismantling the old tower and erecting the new structure. The Liebherr LTM1095 crane, with a load capacity of 120 tons, was selected for its strength and adaptability to the space constraints at the site. Additionally, a boom truck with a 55-ton capacity supported operations.

Transporting the machinery from Sarens’ Surrey warehouse to South Vancouver was a logistical feat, requiring additional transport for counterweights. Despite the narrow access points, Sarens’ experienced team assembled the crane in just two hours and completed the entire project within four days, meeting all safety and scheduling expectations.

The new tower represents a significant leap forward for South Vancouver, providing enhanced browsing speeds, stable connections, and uninterrupted streaming capabilities. Brett Allen, Project Manager at Sarens, shared his thoughts on the project: “We are very pleased with the work done in Vancouver on the new cell tower, not only because it will increase coverage and connection quality, but also because it was completed within a very short timeframe and with safety as our top priority. We look forward to continuing our cooperation with Walsh Wireless to boost Canada’s connectivity.”

Sarens’ contributions to the Canadian construction and telecommunications sectors are numerous. From the HVAC upgrades at Scarborough General Hospital to the Finch West Station project in Toronto and the renovation of Union Station, Sarens continues to showcase its expertise in complex engineering projects.
