Allelys has completed a major upgrade to its AK912 mobile crane, installing a new Deutz TCD 7.8 Stage V engine to improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions and extend the crane’s operational life.
The new power unit replaces the AK912’s previous engine and brings the crane in line with current Stage V emissions requirements. Allelys said the engine also delivers quieter operation, supporting the company’s wider efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its heavy lifting activities.
As part of the three-month upgrade programme, the crane was also fitted with a new control and instrumentation display incorporating remote monitoring capabilities. The system provides improved access to operating and performance data.

The work was carried out at Allelys’ own workshops with support from Deutz UK, with both teams working to integrate the new engine and control systems into the existing crane.
“Upgrading the AK912 enables us to retain the capability of the crane while improving its efficiency, emissions performance and operational monitoring,” said David Allely, Chairman at Allelys.
“It was a complex upgrade, carefully planned and completed in-house to ensure that the crane can continue supporting major projects across the UK.”
Following commissioning and testing, the upgraded AK912 was returned directly to project work.
Its first lifting operation saw the crane discharge two 186-tonne transformers from a river barge before lowering them onto two 14-axle flat-top trailers for onward transportation to site.
The operation provided the first live-project test of the crane’s upgraded power and control systems and marked the AK912’s return to service following the modernisation programme.
