Nooteboom has launched the new Mega Windmill Trailer XXL (MWT-XXL), enhancing its offering for the transport of large wind turbine components. The MWT-XXL features advanced adjustability, allowing for the transport of tower sections with diameters ranging from 2850mm to 6100mm, along with turbine nacelles. The trailer’s design includes a double, hydraulically height-adjustable A-frame and a unique three-point clamping system, enabling quick loading and unloading without the need for cranes.

The first MWT-XXL has been put into operation by Polish transport company Transannaberg, demonstrating the trailer’s flexibility. With a load capacity of 100 tonnes and an empty height of under 4 meters, the MWT-XXL can accommodate significantly larger tower sections than its predecessors.

As wind turbine components grow in size, Nooteboom has focused on maintaining stability. Comprehensive stability tests were conducted at the RDW test track in Lelystad, comparing air suspension to hydraulic suspension. The results revealed that the 2.84-meter wide self-steered dolly with air suspension is as stable as similar trailers with hydraulic suspension and pendulum axles. Air suspension also offers environmental and operational benefits, including lower maintenance costs, reduced vehicle weight, and improved safety through early warning signs of instability.

The new MWT-XXL also features adjustable hooks to clamp tower sections with varying flange thicknesses or shapes. This addition enhances the trailer’s versatility, making it compatible with a wider range of wind turbine components.

Since its introduction in 2003, Nooteboom’s Mega Windmill Trailer range has been the industry standard. The MWT-XXL continues to lead the way, offering multi-functional solutions for the growing demands of the wind energy sector, with the option of a 2.55-meter wide self-steered dolly for reduced road space and easier permitting in European countries.
