Volvo Group Expands North American Truck Production

Rate this post

The Volvo Group is set to enhance its heavy-duty truck manufacturing capabilities in North America with a new plant in Mexico. This addition aims to bolster production for Volvo Trucks and Mack Trucks in the U.S. and Canada while supporting Mack truck sales in Mexico and Latin America. Expected to be operational by 2026, the new 1.7 million square feet facility will focus on producing heavy-duty conventional vehicles for both brands, including cab body-in-white production and paint.

While the Mack LVO plant in Pennsylvania and the Volvo NRV plant in Virginia remain the primary production sites, the Group continues to invest in expanding and upgrading these facilities. With over $73 million invested in LVO expansion and an additional $80 million earmarked for future production, alongside the NRV plant’s ongoing $400 million expansion for the new Volvo VNL model, the Group is committed to strengthening its North American presence.

This strategic move to add production capacity in Mexico promises logistical efficiencies for serving the southwestern/western U.S., Mexico, and Latin America markets. Furthermore, it taps into a mature supply and production ecosystem, enhancing the resilience and flexibility of the Group’s North American industrial footprint.
