Bolloré Logistics successfully completed the transportation of four metro wagons from Tangshan, China to Guifões depot in Portugal at the end of 2022. The state-owned China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) Tangshan Co. Ltd. manufactured these wagons, which are part of the plan to expand Porto’s metro network. This marks the first time China-made trains have been shipped to Europe.
Each metro carriage weighed approximately 28 tonnes, and Bolloré Logistics Portugal will receive a second batch of train sets consisting of 16 wagons at the port of Leixoes in March 2023. Three more batches of train sets are scheduled to be shipped to Portugal throughout 2023.
The success of this project can be attributed to the synergies deployed within Bolloré Logistics’ global network. The North China Team provided end-to-end supervision, the Singapore project team provided technical advice, and the teams in Spain and Portugal offered local handling and support. Bolloré Logistics prioritized timely coordination with all parties, including the shipper, carrier, and consignees, to ensure the smooth and safe transportation of the train cars with cost-effective and high-quality solutions.
Hongbo SUN, Managing Director of Bolloré Logistics North China, said, “Considering the long train body, heavy weight, and high value of cargo, our team had to communicate actively with CRRC Tangshan, the shipping line, as well as all our partners within the Bolloré network. Thanks to the support of all teams involved, we were able to ensure the seamless delivery of the cargo to its destination.”
