Mayo Civil Engineering is expanding its all-WOLFF tower crane fleet with eight new luffing jib cranes for projects across the North of England.

The Rochdale-based contractor initially ordered six cranes before adding two further units. Some of the first six have already been delivered, with the remainder due by the end of 2026. The final two cranes are scheduled to join the fleet in 2027.

The order comprises three WOLFF 166 B, two WOLFF 235 B, two WOLFF 275 B and one WOLFF 355 B. Once all units have been delivered, Mayo will operate 19 WOLFF tower cranes, all in luffing jib configuration.

Two of the new WOLFF 166 B cranes are already working at the £87.5 million Phoenix Iron Works development in Ancoats, Manchester, alongside a third 166 B from Mayo’s existing fleet.

The WOLFF 166 B offers a maximum lifting capacity of 12 tonnes and a jib length of up to 55 metres, making it well suited to constrained urban sites where several cranes need to operate in close proximity.

The larger models extend Mayo’s lifting range further. The WOLFF 235 B offers a maximum capacity of 16 tonnes and hoisting speeds of up to 130 metres per minute with its 60 kW winch, while the WOLFF 275 B can lift up to 24 tonnes.

At the top of the order, the WOLFF 355 B offers a maximum capacity of 28 tonnes and can still handle 4 tonnes at a 60-metre radius.

All eight cranes can be installed on the standard WOLFF TV20/UV20 2 x 2-metre tower system, allowing them to integrate with Mayo’s existing fleet.

“This latest investment in addition to our existing fleet further enables Mayo Civils to fully service our clients across our projects, whilst ensuring the business meets its ongoing commitment to provide a modern and reliable fleet of cranes,”said Gary Mayo, Owner and Managing Director of Mayo Civil Engineering.

Founded in 2005, Mayo Civil Engineering employs around 600 people and reports annual revenues of approximately £80 million.

“We are delighted that Mayo Civils are continuing the excellent working relationship with Wolffkran, and have again chosen high-quality tower crane products to support their construction projects in the North of England,” said Dave Holder, Managing Director of Wolffkran Ltd.
