Liebherr has supplied an LHM 550 mobile harbour crane to Patimban Global Gateway Terminal in Indonesia, completing the project within just three months to support the terminal’s launch of container operations.
Configured specifically for container handling, the LHM 550 will enable the terminal to begin operations while permanent quay cranes are introduced in phases. The delivery included operator training, on-site commissioning support, tailored container handling equipment and long-term service coverage to ensure operational readiness from day one.
Located east of Jakarta, Patimban Port is a strategic national infrastructure project designed to ease congestion at Tanjung Priok and strengthen Indonesia’s logistics network. The mobility and flexibility of the LHM 550 allow the terminal to adapt operations as berth layouts evolve and additional equipment is commissioned.
“Starting operations with equipment that can adapt as the terminal grows was essential for us,” said a representative of Patimban Global Gateway Terminal. “The crane gives us confidence that we can respond to operational requirements from the very first vessel.”
The terminal’s phased expansion strategy is expected to increase container handling capacity to several million TEU, with further equipment arriving as development progresses.

As Patimban develops into a major logistics hub for Indonesia, particularly for the country’s manufacturing and automotive export sectors, the LHM 550 will provide the operational flexibility needed to support the terminal’s growth from its first vessel calls through to full-scale operations.
