deugro has successfully completed the delivery of 140 oversized car bodies from Europe to the United States as part of a long-term multimodal logistics project running from 2018 to 2026.
Working alongside dteq Transport Engineering Solutions, teams from the USA, Germany and Belgium handled the transport of cargo units measuring more than 26 metres in length and weighing up to 19 tonnes. The project involved truck, barge, ocean vessel and rail transport across a total distance exceeding 1.6 million kilometres.
According to deugro, the contract was secured thanks to a specialised logistics concept developed with dteq that reduced freight costs by more than 10 percent. The solution included custom-engineered transport saddles, lifting and lashing plans and detailed transport engineering for every stage of the journey.
Most cargo units were transported from the client’s production facility in Szolnok, Hungary, to the inland Port of Dunavecse before moving by barge through the Danube and Rhine rivers to Antwerp and Zeebrugge in Belgium. Extensive route preparation was required, including more than 100 cable lifts, traffic light removals and railway crossing adjustments.
From Belgium, the cargo was shipped to Galveston, Texas, using RO/RO vessels before continuing by rail to Salt Lake City due to road transport restrictions in the United States.
deugro said the project required detailed coordination across multiple transport modes and transshipment points to ensure safe, on-time delivery throughout the eight-year operation.
