Künz GmbH and ABB will supply nine Rail Mounted Stacking Cranes for the expansion of TraPac LLC’s terminal in Los Angeles.

The order forms part of a broader terminal expansion programme aimed at increasing yard capacity and supporting long-term container handling operations on the U.S. West Coast. Delivery of the cranes is scheduled between 2027 and 2028.

Künz will manufacture the steel structures in Europe and integrate all mechanical components, with final assembly taking place in Poland to ensure fully erected and tested delivery. ABB, a long-standing partner, will provide electrification and control systems.

The collaboration builds on decades of joint projects, combining Künz’ structural and mechanical expertise with ABB’s advanced automation technologies to deliver high-performance yard crane solutions.

“The contract at TraPac underlines our capability in the international container industry,” said David Moosbrugger, Managing Director of Künz.

TraPac CEO Cameron Thorpe added: “We selected Künz and ABB based on their proven ability to deliver reliable, high-performing equipment. This investment strengthens our terminal infrastructure and supports our continued growth.”

Clara Holmgren, Global Business Line Manager, Ports at ABB, commented: “Our electrification and control technologies will support TraPac’s long-term efficiency and capacity.”

The project further strengthens Künz’ presence in the U.S. market, particularly on the West Coast, a key region for the company’s international growth strategy.
