Wagenborg has reached a key milestone in the Brunsbüttel lock gate project, successfully positioning two massive lock gates in the Eemshaven basin for testing.

The gates were previously transported from Emden to Eemshaven aboard the pontoon Wagenborg Barge 11. Their installation marks the transition to the next phase of this complex infrastructure project.

The lifting operation was carried out using the floating cranes Matador 3 and Hebo Lift 10, which worked in tandem to lift each gate from the barge and carefully lower it into the water. After the first installation, Wagenborg tugboats repositioned the pontoon to prepare for the second lift, which was completed the following day under controlled conditions.

The successful execution highlights Wagenborg’s capabilities in heavy transport, lifting operations and project coordination. By combining in-house maritime expertise with precise planning and teamwork, the company continues to strengthen its position in large-scale port infrastructure projects across Northwest Europe.

With both lock gates now in place, the project moves into its final testing phase. Wagenborg will remain closely involved, ensuring the same focus on safety and precision as preparations continue for the transport of the gates to Brunsbüttel in 2026.
