The HSI consortium, consisting of HSM Offshore Energy, Smulders, and Iv, has achieved a key milestone with the successful yard completion and sail-away of the Jasmund Offshore Substation (OSS). The 4,500-tonne structure, measuring 48 meters long, 33 meters wide and 17.5 meters high, departed the HSM Offshore Energy Stormpolder facility, while its 72-meter-high jacket left the Smulders yard in Vlissingen.

The topside’s departure created a striking sight as it travelled directly through the center of Rotterdam, passing beneath the city’s iconic bridges and showcasing both advanced offshore engineering and the region’s deep maritime heritage.

Both components are now en route to the Baltic Sea for installation as part of the Ostwind 3 grid connection project. Once in place northeast of the island of Rügen, the OSS will be installed offshore by Heerema Marine Contractors. With a planned capacity of 300 MW, OSS Jasmund will serve as the vital link between the Windanker offshore wind farm and the mainland power grid.

This achievement reflects the dedication and teamwork across the consortium,” said Hans Leerdam, Chief Commercial Officer at HSM Offshore Energy. “Guiding such a significant structure through Rotterdam was a proud moment for all involved.”

Smulders Commercial Director Wim Vaes highlighted the safe and efficient execution of the jacket sail-away, while Iv Managing Director Offshore & Energy, Fedor van Veen, praised the engineering collaboration that enabled the milestone.

Delivered under a full EPCIC contract for 50Hertz, Jasmund is the first of three offshore substations being developed by the consortium, to be followed by Zingst and Darß. Together, these platforms will contribute to Europe’s renewable energy expansion and support long-term offshore wind integration.
