Aberdeen Web (AWL by pewag) has supplied heavy-duty polyester round slings to load a 210t tidal turbine at the MeyGen project in Scotland, the world’s largest planned tidal stream array. MeyGen is a key development in Scotland’s transition to renewable energy, but deploying tidal turbines is a complex task, requiring precise handling in strong currents and narrow tidal windows.

Aberdeen Web’s polyester round slings proved the ideal solution. Lightweight yet exceptionally strong, they are easy to handle on deck, resistant to water and abrasion, and gentle on sensitive turbine surfaces. Their soft but durable construction protected the turbine during the lift while reducing handling risks for the crew. With a 7:1 safety factor, the slings comply with BS EN 1492-2:2000 & A1 2008 and are available in capacities from 0.5 to 150t.

Richard Smart, Managing Director at Aberdeen Web, said: “Our round slings are trusted across the renewables sector. Supplying equipment for the MeyGen project highlights our role in enabling safe, efficient heavy lifting for projects that are shaping the UK’s clean energy future.”

Part of the pewag UK group, Aberdeen Web works alongside Modulift and LMS to deliver complete below-the-hook solutions for offshore energy, subsea, defence, and construction industries.
