A major milestone in European industry was celebrated on 8 July in Ravenna, as Liebherr officially handed over its 2,000th mobile harbour crane to Marcegaglia. The new LHM 600 model, now the largest crane in Marcegaglia’s local fleet, will boost operations handling steel coils, billets, and plates — key elements of the site’s high-volume logistics.
The handover ceremony gathered top leaders, including Antonio Marcegaglia, President and CEO of Marcegaglia, and Patricia Rüf, Member of the Administrative Board at Liebherr-International AG.
The LHM 600 stands out with an outreach of 61 metres and a lifting capacity of 154 tonnes, designed for peak performance and operator safety. Equipped with an advanced digital interface, ergonomic cabin, and enhanced safety features, it promises efficient and reliable operations even in demanding port environments.
Marcegaglia’s Ravenna site processes over four million tonnes of steel annually and is central to the Group’s expansion plans focusing on increased capacity, quality, and environmental performance.
The collaboration between Marcegaglia and Liebherr dates back to 2001 with the delivery of the first LHM 400 crane. Over the years, this partnership has grown alongside Marcegaglia’s operational needs.
“We are proud to receive this milestone crane,” said Antonio Marcegaglia. “It represents not just technical excellence but the strength of our long-standing partnership with Liebherr.”
The event also highlighted the vital role of Mac Port, Liebherr’s trusted sales and service partner in Italy, in maintaining the fleet’s performance.
“Delivering our 2,000th mobile harbour crane to Marcegaglia is a proud moment,” added Andreas Ritschel, General Manager Sales Mobile Harbour Cranes at Liebherr Rostock. “It underscores our shared commitment to innovation and long-term success.”
